Have you ever heard about Junibacken? Three weeks ago I never heard about this place either...
In early August my wife and I took our three children, 3, 6, and 10 years old, to Baltic sea cruise. We did a research what children's activities we can do in every port, to ensure that they have interest, and are not bored and tired. In Stockholm we found a great place called Junibacken ! It is a children's museum dedicated mostly to fabulous stories of Astrid Lindgren. Did you read Pippi Longstocking or Karlsson-on-the-Roof?
While parents are waiting in line to get tickets they can make some pictures of their kids.
Or they can let kids to catch some sort of imaginary fish in the pond which is in front of the museum.
Just after entering the museum you come to Storybook square where characters from children's books you might or might not know live. The cool part is that children can play, climb and have fun with everything they see.
If you go upstairs you arrive to Villa Villekulla, it is where Pippi Longstocking lived :). Kids can ride Pippi's horse, play in Pippi's kitchen, ride the slides, and many other things.
The best part of this museum is the Storybook Train. I did not see anything like this before. All five of us sat in a train coach and we went through several stories and fairy tales. First, you are on the ground level and then you are flying. All character figures and actions are in front of you. From all characters I knew only Karlson and Emill. But even if you do not know them or other characters it is still great experience. Narrator's voice, surrounding music and sounds make this trip unforgettable. Stories are available in multiple languages including English, Russian, German and others.
After riding the train we went to the Restaurant. The food was not only delicious, but also kids-friendly.
On a way out you can stop at the bookstore where you can purchase books, souvernirs, and toys. As in most museums it is expensive, but anyway we purchased a couple of books for kids
Kids loved Junibacken. They told us that this was the best children's museum they ever visited!
