This luxury all-inclusive is a visual showstopper especially its central plaza by night, which sparkles under dramatic lighting.

The average suite, with flat-screen TV, CD player, balcony or terrace, and semi-open marble bathroom with jet showers and a Jacuzzi for two, is extraordinary. You won't need to upgrade, but if you choose the adults-only Royal Service, you'll get to experience the smashing new contemporary Royal Club lounge and restaurant.

There's also The Reserve, a private self-contained group of 190 luxurious suites in the interior of the property that share even more (and better) amenities. The optional, signature family-concierge plan, only at The Reserve, includes lavish attention for kids, who get their own check-in, welcome backpacks, and mini-size robes and slippers. A drawback of this contemporary enclave is that you must take a shuttle to the private beach.

The resort's restaurants are opulently decorated, though in some cases the decor may outshine the food. The Asian-inspired YHI Spa has lagoons, boardwalks, and a hushed serenity. Its staff is to be applauded for service, professionalism, and skill. Greens fees at the nearby Cocotal Golf Course are included (though charges apply for carts, etc.), but nongolfers may be won over by horseback-riding or biking excursions.
