Looking for a challenge? Climb the tallest mountain in all of Massachusetts. This peak reaches 3491 feet, and there's a special treat when you reach the top!
During the hike up, its all about trees and hills. Surrounding you are big trees, green grass, leafy plants, and the chirping birds. The sun peeks through the canopies of the trees, and leaves sun-lit paths for you to follow. If you love hiking and being in the wilderness, this is a great place to visit!
Although it took me and my family almost 8 hours to reach the top (phew!), it was definitely worth all the work! The view from the mountain top is gorgeous! Being in the highest part in the whole state, everywhere you look is a beauty! In fact, you can see several different states from the top. Not only is there a great view on the top of the mountain, but there's also a beautiful monument. When my family was there, it was closed to the public for construction. But other than that, it is usually open to the public for observation.
If you decide to spend the night up top the mountain, there's a small lodge. It holds a large number of people, and it is very cozy. You have a choice of sleeping in a bunk bed with about 10 other people, or you can rent your own room for the night. Built of bricks, with fireplaces and rocking chairs inside, its a great place to relax and spend the night. Built outside the lodge is a big patio. Guests can walk out onto it and see miles out into the distance. It's a great place to take pictures of the great outdoors!
When walking down back to the bottom, be sure to take a break in one of the many streams. Although the water may be cold, is it very refreshing after a long, hot hike.
Visit Mount Greylock, you won't regret it!
